Material: Sandwashed Silk 19 Momme & French Leavers Lace.
Silk Indulgence
At Shell Belle Couture we use only the finest silks specially sourced from a luxury silk mill in Shanghai, China.
Our main qualities are Sandwashed Silk 19mm & Silk Crepe de Chine 16mm.
Our laces are amongst the finest Couture laces in the world. We use only French laces often created on heritage French Leavers Lace machines, producing the most intricate & delicately divine patterns that are unique & truly beautiful.
Our Sandwashed silk has the most wonderful, buttery soft handle that improves with time and wear. The more you wear & gently hand wash your precious piece, the softer & more supple this lustrous fabric becomes.
Our Silk Crepe de Chine has a wonderful even finish & excellent drape, a favourite during the 1920’s & 30’s due to its wonderful handle and matt finish. Perfect for lounging, layering & wearing out.

Silk Care
Delicate hand wash only with a maximum water temperature of 30*. Light steam is preferable. Silk is naturally anti-microbial & moisture wicking, which means it doesn’t require washing as often as synthetic fibres. Try spot cleaning then airing this breathable fabric, less washing is also kinder to the planet. We recommend using a delicate silk detergent for all of our pieces.
Steaming & Ironing: Hang your pieces to air dry where possible. It is kinder to lightly steam your garment if you wish to get rid of unwanted creases & wrinkles. Preferably with a hand steamer. Do not touch the silk or lace with the steamer. Steaming has the added benefits of eliminating germs and odours & add lustre back into your garment. Please never iron lace.
Silk: If you use an iron please use your irons delicate, silk or lowest heat setting. Preferably iron placing a cloth over the silk to protect the finish especially on the front. You must iron silk gently to avoid any damage. Iron your silk while it’s still slightly damp after washing & remember to turn the garment inside out first. This fabric is particularly delicate and a high temperature will result in scorching or burning, we prefer to steam our garment instead.
Long-Term Storage: Store silks & laces in breathable dry containers if you intend to keep it stored for long periods of time. Use a Moth preventative.
French Lace
Material: French Lace 100% Polyamide or Polyamide / Cotton Blend (see individual garment).
Lace Care
Delicate hand wash only with a maximum water temperature of 30*. This will preserve the life of your garment.
Never Iron Lace. Lace can be lightly steamed if required, please avoid touching the iron on the lace itself.
